(3 in-service credits) Islam in Prisons is a training module meant for correctional and law enforcement officers who work with Muslim inmates. It clarifies Islamic aspects of worship, the religiously mandated needs of a Muslim inmate and religious accommodations, how to identify and deal with sensitivities related to Islamic beliefs and practices, and also examines the issue of radicalization in prisons. The training is three hours long and covers the following: Islam: an Overview Rituals of Worship Diversity in Faith Obligatory vs. Nonobligatory aspects of practice Cultural Competency: Diet, Gender Relations, Handling Religious Material Death and Funeral Rites Radicalization in Prisons: Risk Assessment, Research and Literature, Best Practices, Case Study
