This training will cover a true medical event, however the symptoms exhibited usually frighten the public and trigger law enforcement involvement. Responding agencies are faced with an out of control person who is acting irrational and failing to comply with direction/orders given. In the past, law enforcement has responded with traditional less-lethal means and/or physical restraints. Sometimes the “super human” actions of the suspect cause them to be bound hands and feet once in custody. Law enforcement takes time to check on the condition of everyone around them, leaving the suspect to calm down. The untrained law enforcement professional may not be aware that a medical reaction to being bound is occurring, and if the suspect is not treated immediately, there’s a greater chance the suspect will die. This class covers in-custody death and excited delirium, how to recognize and respond to these types of events, the need for training and legal issues.
